Understanding the basic methods and models of Operations Research, and their application to the formulation, analysis and solution of optimal decision-making models. Being able to formulate, analyze and solve linear optimization models, via the graphical method, the simplex method and computer software in particular, spreadsheets.
Being able to formulate, analyze and solve integer optimization models, via the graphical method, the branch and bound method, and computer software. Being able to design and perform computer simulation experiments via the Monte Carlo method, and to generate pseudo-random numbers for common statistical distributions.
Capacity for analysis and synthesis. Problem modeling and solving.
Oral and written communication. Introduction to Operations Research; LO models, formulations, applications and computer solution.
Graphical solution and sensitivity analysis; introduction to robust LO. The fundamental theorem of LO; basic feasible solutions and vertices; the simplex method. Problems with unbounded objetive; the two-phase simplex method.
Duality in LO; economic interpretation and application to sensitivity analysis. Optimal network flow models.

The course assessment is based on: Students who do invesrigacion pass the course in the regular semester will have an extraordinary exam. If a student followed the continuous evaluation process, this exam will have the same weight than the regular exam. In any case, the final grade will be based on the more favorable weighing scheme.
