He who listens to it is elevated and is biegivi from the world for imxm with Allah, which is the goal of prayer. Imam Birgivi was an Ottoman Muslim scholar and moralist who lived during the height of bbirgivi Ottoman Empire, in the 16th century of the common era.
In young manhood Muhammad was sent to Istanbul, the capital, to study theology under Ahizade Mehmed Efendi. After the completion of his education, he taught in various schools. During this time he became a dervish, attaching himself to a Sufi master of the order of Bayramiyyah. After briefly serving in a government position, Imam Birgivi abandoned all worldly concerns, dedicated his life to God, and became an ascetic.
But his Sufi master, who appreciated both the virtue and the knowledge of his student, directed him to become a teacher of religion, religious jurisprudence, and morals, and to write books as well. Shortly, through his birgivii and the writing of twenty-seven books, Muhammad ibn Pir Ali now called by the title and name of Imam Birgivi became very famous.

Beautifully written, easy to understand. Great source of original teachings. I only read about 40 pages into this book until I stopped.
There are quotes of “divine tradition” that aren’t sourced in the Qur’an or any Hadith. As a new convert, I don’t want to confuse myself with things that I can’t link back and check for myself. Maybe someone more versed than myself can tell if this is valid or not but without noting the source I just don’t trust it. The translation is very good but in many ways are different from the original text written by Imam Birgivi.
It is not safe to quote something from this book and citing it as Imam Birgivi’s word, also cannot be used to study Imam Birgivi’s thought. The structure is also different from the original text.
I have been in the midst of reading this book, and I love the wonderful organization of topics, and how it’s quite easy to read. Furthermore, it contains very practical, spiritual advice which I found very inspiring, if you are looking for ways to live daily life as a better Muslim, to bigivi closer to God, and to achieve more spiritual inner peace.
It is written in a very engaging and good way. It’s one of those books that’s good to purchase and keep reading consistently, because it helps you to reflect on God’s guidance in a day-to-day fashion. This is a great book. It has really effected my life and thought, and guided me to the importance of Muhammadan Sufism, or sufism that aims to imitate the spiritual states of the Prophet pbuh in every action and deed.
However this is not a book of sufism, and if it were not for mentions of some Sufi figures and a few hints here and there, you wouldnt know it was written by a Sufi.
In fact, in its criticism of many wrong sufi practices of its time this book created a huge anti-sufi backlash when it was first written. But the author is a great and respected sufi. I bifgivi also like to correct a comment by another review: Imam Birgivi followed a different Order, not of the the Tariqa Muhammadiyya ones.
As for the cover, it is a horrible choice. I cant believe a book so stringest about complete following of the Prophet’s teachings would have such a violation of that on its cover. Imam Birgivi must be rolling in his grave!. In conclusion I just want to say that this book is the guide to the most perfect morals and ethics known to human history.
Anyone who internalizes all these teachings and lives by them has become as perfect as a human being can possibly become. It is truly a blessing that a book imwm as this is available in the english language.
This is a guidebook to be lived by those reading it.
There may be some small value or interest in mere reading, but that is not what this book was designed for. It was designed to transform spiritual seekers into the closest likeness of the Prophet Muhammad both externally and more importantly internally. The title of the book in arabic is al-Tariqah al-Muhammadiyyah which is also the name of a sufi order that exerts its influence to this day and this book is a clear insight into the practices and goals of that sufi order.
My only complaint with this book is the cover art which is questionable at best, but despite this The Path of Muhammad is invaluable for any spiritual traveller. Changed the way I looked at things.
